TORONTO — Studio Ghibli's much-anticipated fantasy epic, The Boy and the Heron, directed by Academy Award-winning Japanese filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki, is set to open the 48th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on Thursday, September 7, at Roy Thomson Hall. This event marks the first time a Japanese or animated film will kick off the festival.

The film, which has already achieved record-breaking success in Japan, will make its international debut at TIFF, allowing audiences outside of Japan their first glimpse.
